About
Mariam is an Armenian-American actress and filmmaker based in Los Angeles. She has been professionally trained at the prestigious UCLA School of Theater, Film & Television, Drama Centre London at Central Saint Martins, and Bristol Old Vic Theatre School where she honed her craft under the guidance of some of the greatest instructors and titans of the industry.
Her film debut was in the feature film 10E, which is now streaming on Amazon Prime. Her stage credits include Anya in The Cherry Orchard, for which she was nominated for the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Irene Ryan Acting Award, Stella Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire, and Nora Helmer in A Doll's House, to name a few.
Having worked as an actress in many independent films, she longed to tell stories from behind the lens as well. Fueled by a lifelong love for cinema and a fascination with documenting the world around her from a young age, she set out to make her directorial debut with the short social docu-film Say My Name which she also produced under the banner of her production company Blue Iris Films.
Mariam is a strong supporter of the notion that representation matters and this is a major cornerstone of her work as an artist. Hoping to make underrepresented communities like her own feel seen and heard, she continues to push for more representation of Armenian and MENA talent in film and television. Say My Name is an extension of this lifelong commitment to telling the stories of marginalized communities.
Mariam is also the producer and host of the podcast show Represent Now with Mariam Meliksetyan which is another project that centers around the belief that representation matters. Each episode delves into an inspiring and entertaining conversation with friends and peers from the film and entertainment industry who are from historically underrepresented communities in show business. Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and more.
